Social Security For Divorced Spouses

If your marriage lasted at least 10 years and you are currently unmarried, you can claim a spousal benefit worth up to 50% of your ex-spouse's full retirement benefit — without affecting their payment at all. You can claim as early as 62, or wait until your own full retirement age for the full 50%. If your own earned benefit exceeds the spousal benefit, SSA pays your own amount. The ex-spouse does not need to have filed yet, as long as both of you are at least 62.
