Spousal Ira Guide

A non-working spouse can contribute to a Spousal IRA based on the working spouse's earned income. The limit is $7,000/year ($8,000 if 50+) for 2025, as long as the couple files jointly and the working spouse earns at least that amount. The contribution can go into a traditional IRA (deductible if income qualifies) or a Roth IRA (subject to income limits: phase-out at $236,000–$246,000 for married filing jointly). This effectively doubles the couple's annual IRA contribution capacity.
