Mr. Money Mustache's seminal 2012 analysis showed that a 50% savings rate leads to retirement in about 17 years from zero savings. At a 25% rate, that extends to around 32 years. The relationship is nonlinear — each additional percentage point of savings rate reduces working years more when you're already saving 40%+ than when starting at 10%.
